The 45th Annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In and Expo will be held at the Lakeland Linder Airport in Lakeland, Florida from April 2 – 7 this year. I attended last year’s event and I had a blast. This is a huge event with plenty to see and do for at least 2 to 3 days. The great airshows alone are worth the price of admission. If you have just the slightest interest in aviation you don’t want to miss this show. It’s only a 3 hour drive from South Florida. But plan early as hotels in the area get filled up.
The airshows were my favorite such as the Navy Blue Angels, the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Para-Commandos, and the numerous aerobatic displays such as the Paradigm Team and the AeroShell show. These airshows go on consistently all afternoon and evening. The sound, smoke, and fire during the airshows only adds to the excitement.
But there are a wide variety of other activities and displays from a SUN ‘n FUN 5K race, to a display of old war planes like the B-17, along with ultra-light aircrafts, hot air balloons, free workshops on a variety of topics, and over 100 vendor displays.
This event is the perfect family vacation getaway. Admission is very reasonable at $39 per day per person (or 2 tickets for $60) and free for children 6 and under. Now compare that to a day at one of the Disney Parks! I can’t wait until this year’s event. See you there!
